SDG 17 – Partnerships For The Goals

Goal 17: Strengthen means of implementation and revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development.

A successful sustainable development agenda requires partnerships between governments, the private sector and civil society. These inclusive partnerships, based on shared principles, values and a common vision along shared goals that put people and the planet at the centre, are needed at global, national, regional and local levels.

Urgent action is needed to mobilise, redirect and unleash the transformative power of billions of US dollars in private resources and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Long-term investment, including foreign direct investment, is needed in critical sectors, especially in developing countries. These include sustainable energy, infrastructure and transport, and information and communication technologies. The public sector must provide clear direction.

Review and monitoring frameworks, regulations and incentive structures that enable such investments need to be remodeled to attract investment and strengthen sustainable development. National control mechanisms, such as supreme audit institutions and legislative supervisory functions, should be strengthened.
